Some Eco-Friendly Hotels, Bed & Breakfast Inns and Campgrounds in New Jersey’s Highlands
Hotels
“Green” Hotels are environmentally-friendly properties whose owners and managers are eager to institute programs that save water, save energy and reduce solid waste to help protect the environment and create a healthier atmosphere to live and breathe.
All over New Jersey many Hotel and Resort establishments are becoming more and more aware of the growing concerns of our environment. Many are reducing consumption, becoming more energy efficient and some even switching to renewable energy. Crystal Springs Resort, the Northeast’s premier resort located in northwestern NJ, is committed to actively pursing eco-tourism that increases usage and recognition of the protected New Jersey Highlands, the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and the Appalachian Trail for the benefit of all. The Resort has become the first resort development company to address global warming and offset its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through MyClimate™, an innovative program that neutralizes the impact of GHG emissions. MyClimate™ has helped Crystal Springs address the issue of global warming by ensuring that its operations are climate friendly.
Bed & Breakfast Inns
At The RoseMary Inn being eco-friendly is evident from the breakfast they serve to the grounds that they work hard at cultivating. Situated on 17 acres, owners Theo and Elaine Nagelmakers have been clearing non-native plants such as Russian olive, Japanese barberry, multi-flora rose and wild grape vines while at the same time making brush piles for animal habitat. Walking trails have been cut through the back of the property so guests may enjoy a leisurely stroll and observe a variety of wildlife from birds to deer, fox, raccoon, bear and more.
Alpine Haus Bed & Breakfast Inn is an environmentally friendly lodging establishment. They have signs in the rooms that request guests help conserve precious natural resources by using their towels more than once and having the bed linen changed every three days, unless otherwise requested. Guests are encouraged to use the delicious well water instead of bottled water in order to decrease the amount of plastic bottles in our environment. When Alpine Haus was being converted to a Bed & Breakfast Inn insulation was blown into the structure and they have since replaced all the windows with thermal pane windows. These efforts have greatly reduced the energy consumption for heating the building.
